Milwaukee families have a new reason to smile this summer with the opening of Wisconsin’s only Ben & Jerry’s scoop shop!

Located at 203 N. Broadway in the Historic Third Ward, the shop opened its doors on Sunday, July 14, transforming the former home of Paintball Dave’s into an ice cream haven.

Operated by Tricia and Fred Rasmussen, the shop offers a mouthwatering daily selection of 34 flavors of ice cream, non-dairy ice cream, and sorbet.

Whether you’re a fan of classic scoops in a cup, housemade waffle cones, or sundae bowls, Ben & Jerry’s has something to satisfy every sweet tooth.

The menu also boasts a variety of indulgent sundaes, shakes, sorbet slushies, root beer floats, and even hot chocolate for those cooler evenings.

Step inside, and you’ll be greeted by an inviting blend of contemporary and rustic design featuring wooden paneling, white and lime green tiles, and uplifting Ben & Jerry’s messaging.

Don’t miss the locally themed mural down the hallway, bursting with colorful Ben & Jerry’s cows – a perfect backdrop for family photos!

Flavors to Savor

The scoop shop’s flavor lineup includes Ben & Jerry’s “Top 10 favorites” like Americone Dream, Cherry Garcia, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, and Half Baked. Newer offerings such as Mango, Impretzively Fudged, Marshmallow Sky, PB S’more, and an oat-based Strawberry Cheezecake ensure there’s always something new to try.

Treats for Furry Friends

Even your furry family members can join in on the fun with two Doggie Desserts: Pontch’s Mix, a frozen treat with peanut butter and pretzel swirls, and Rosie’s Batch, featuring pumpkin and mini cookies.

Relax and Enjoy

The scoop shop provides cozy seating inside for about a dozen customers, with additional patio seating for another dozen on their charming sidewalk patio.

It’s the perfect spot to relax and enjoy your treat while taking in the lively atmosphere of the Historic Third Ward.

In Milwaukee, we take our dairy seriously.

There’s few family traditions as time-honored as going out for ice cream, and if you’re from around here, you’re probably more likely to go out for frozen custard (yes – there’s a difference, and yes – it matters what you call it).

No matter what type of creamy, frozen treat you crave, there are plenty of places where kids (and parents) can get their fix. We sorted them by type to make it even easier!

FROZEN CUSTARD

Let’s get one thing straight – frozen custard is NOT ice cream, and every good Milwaukeean knows it. Though the two are very similar (made with cream and sugar), frozen custard has one key ingredient that ice cream doesn’t – egg yolks! The result is a denser, richer, sweet treat to tickle your taste buds.

So, whether you’re a local looking for a new brunch spot or a visitor to the city, get ready to discover the most fun brunch spots in Milwaukee that are perfect for the whole family!

Are they kid-friendly?

Some more than others.

In this article, we’ve focused on the best brunch places, period.

We’ve tried to include details about the general environment of each restaurant, if they provide kids menus, and reader feedback. If you have anything to add about a restaurant, please email hello@mkewithkids.com.

1. Blue’s Egg

317 N. 76th, Milwaukee, WI 53213

Blues Egg is hands down one of the best places for brunch in the area. Popular dishes that customers rave about include the pulled ham and the decadent monkey bread.

From the restaurant: “We look at Modern American Brunch through the eyes of Lady Liberty, blending Old World ingredients, the vision of American immigrant cooking and the creativity of fresh concepts. We source ingredients that are high quality, regionally supportive and locally sustainable.”

Kid-friendly? Yes. There isn’t a dedicated kids menu, but we’re guessing your child won’t hate the monkey bread.

2. Hubbard Park Lodge

3565 N Morris Blvd, Shorewood, WI 53211

Located in picturesque Hubbard Park on the Milwaukee River, their Sunday Lumberjack Brunch includes warm, fried donuts, family-style plates of pancakes, eggs, hash browns, breakfast sausage and bacon, an omelette bar, and a selection of fresh fruits, cereals and juices. The log cabin feel is cozy and inviting for your whole family.

You can bike there via the Oak Leaf Trail, or park in the lot at the intersection of North Morris Blvd. and E. Menlo Blvd. Access the park and lodge through a pedestrian tunnel running under the Oak Leaf Trail.

3. Avli

1818 N Hubbard St Milwaukee, WI 53212

Milwaukee’s favorite Greek-inspired restaurant recently launched their brunch service, and it features delectable options like a gluten-free Eggs Benedict, Tsoureki French Toast, and Greek yogurt with honey, fresh fruit, and walnuts.

There’s a kids menu for the little ones, and be sure to ask for sparkling Greek soda – it comes in orange and cherry flavors and is made with real sugar and real fruit. They also offer lemonade made with lemons from Greece.

4. Sabrosa Cafe

3216 S Howell Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53207

If you don’t think about Mexican restaurants when you think about brunch restaurants, think again. One of your favorite places will be Sabrosa Cafe. After all, sabrosa means delicious in Spanish, and they live up to their name.

A must-try menu item is their avocado toast. It has smashed avocado on 8-grain toast layered with greens, poached hard eggs, goat cheese, roasted red pepper sauce, shaved carrots, and cracked pepper.

Kid-friendly? Indeed. (See photo above!)

Forget what you know about delis.

The Peanut Butter and Jelly Deli in West Allis is no ordinary deli. Here, the humble PB&J is elevated to an art form, and you’re invited to enjoy the masterpiece.

Let’s dive into what makes this place a must-visit for families.

What’s the Scoop?

The Peanut Butter and Jelly Deli stands as Wisconsin’s only destination dedicated solely to celebrating the iconic PB&J Sandwich.

Located in the Six Points neighborhood of West Allis, this charming eatery takes the simple pleasure of peanut butter and jelly to a whole new level with classic and gourmet twists that will have both kids and adults coming back for more.

What To Try?

The deli offers an imaginative and extensive menu that has something for everyone.

With five house-made nut butters and dozens of jellies on the menu, the odds are good that you’ll find something just right for you.

Some of their most popular options are “Strawberry Lovers”, with crunchy, honey roasted peanut butter with strawberry jam and fresh sliced strawberries, and “The King”, a grilled delight of peanut butter, sliced bananas, and honey, with an option to add bacon.

For picky eaters, try the Build Your Own PBJ, where you can customize your sandwich with choices of bread, nut butter, and jam or jelly.

Add an extra layer of deliciousness to your sandwich with a wide range of toppings, including bacon, ham, mallow creme, marshmallows, Nutella, jalapeños, chocolate sauce, honey, caramel sauce, pickles, and sliced fruit like strawberries, apples, and bananas, among other tasty options like Sriracha sauce and cream cheese.

And don’t worry, they’re happy to let you sample to your heart’s desire until you find something you love.

For the adventurous foodies, there’s the Grilled Cheese and Jelly with your choice of cheese and jam or jelly, melted between your bread choice. (Try it with raspberry jalapeño jelly!)

Don’t miss out on trying their honey roasted peanut butter—affectionately dubbed “literal crack butter” by fans—or exploring their wide range of jelly flavors, from gooseberry and apricot.

Plus, they offer old school ice cream floats featuring their signature PBJ Deli Soda Pops, locally roasted coffee, and milkshakes.

Freshness on the Menu

One of the first things you’ll love about the PBJ Deli is their commitment to freshness and local sourcing.

The peanut butter is ground daily right in their shop, and the jams and jellies come from local jelly farms. The bread comes straight from nearby bakeries.

And if you want to take the goodness home, their fresh nut butter, jams, and jellies available for purchase.

A Nostalgic Nook

The deli’s decor is a trip down memory lane, adorned with nostalgic lunchboxes and old-school pictures.

It’s cozy, making it a perfect spot for families to enjoy a meal together.

Plus, it’s not just about eating; it’s an experience. Engage with the friendly staff, sample different peanut butters and jellies to your heart’s content, and maybe even leave with a new favorite lunchbox.

Kid-Friendly Through and Through

Extremely kid-friendly—that’s the consensus among parents. The staff go out of their way to accommodate little ones, even those with peanut allergies, by offering great PB alternatives.

The environment is clean, welcoming, and just the right setting for a family meal.

Practical Tips

  • Location: Find your way to the Six Points neighborhood of West Allis to uncover this gem.
  • Parking: Look around the neighborhood for street parking; it’s usually not too tricky to find a spot.
  • Menu Picks: Can’t decide? The grilled cheese & jelly is a crowd-pleaser, and don’t shy away from sampling to find your perfect match.
  • Sharing is Caring: With portions described as filling, consider splitting a sandwich with a friend or sibling to taste more flavors.
  • Space Mural: Don’t miss the Space Mural on the side of the building!

The Peanut Butter & Jelly Deli is a celebration of a beloved classic, reinvented with a dash of creativity and a whole lot of love.

Whether you’re a local or just visiting, stopping by with your family promises a deliciously fun experience.

Happy eating!

Organ Piper Pizza is not your ordinary pizza joint – it’s a slice of local history and whimsical fun that’s perfect for a family fun night out.

This historic restaurant has been delighting families and music lovers in Milwaukee for years.

Whether you’re a long-time resident or just passing through, Organ Piper Pizza offers a one-of-a-kind experience that’s bound to make memorable moments for you and your kids.

What Makes It Special?

At the heart of Organ Piper Pizza is the Mighty Wurlitzer, an impressive theatre pipe organ that fills the air with music daily.

The vibe here is joyful and uncomplicated. They use a simple self-serve system. Grab a menu at the entrance, order at the register when you’re ready, and wait for your number to light up – bingo style.

You can pick up drinks at the bar or order them with your meal.

While you wait for your food, your kids can keep themselves entertained in the game room. Be sure to bring lots of quarters.

This laid-back atmosphere lets you focus on what’s important: enjoying quality time with your loved ones and savoring every bite and note.

The best part? Don’t worry too much about cleaning up; the staff has got you covered.

Planning Your Visit

Here are some tips for parents with kids:

Bring Quarters: The more quarters you bring, the longer your kids will keep busy in the game room!

Reservations: Recommended for groups of 10 or more, but keep in mind it gets busy, and there might be a time limit during peak hours.

Seating: It’s mostly first-come, first-serve, but accommodations for disabilities can be made. Just give them a heads-up.

Celebrations: Feel free to bring balloons and decorations for your table, but leave the noisemakers at home – the organ music provides all the ambiance you’ll need.

Food Allergies: They strive to accommodate dietary restrictions, including offering gluten-free pizza crusts. It’s best to contact them ahead with your concerns.

A Little History

The Mighty Wurlitzer is a testament to the pioneering spirit of Robert Hope-Jones, an English engineer who revolutionized pipe organs in the early 1900s. This particular organ, assembled from parts salvaged from movie theaters, represents the collaborative craftsmanship of Wurlitzer and several other builders.

Meet the Maestros

The organists are the soul of Organ Piper Pizza. From Zach Frame, the Theatre Organist of the Year, to substitute Dean Rosko who plays for the Milwaukee Brewers and the Milwaukee Admirals, each brings a unique flair to the performances.

What Folks Are Saying

Local families cherish Organ Piper Pizza not just for its tasty pies but for the engaging atmosphere. It’s a place where the entertainment is as much a draw as the food, offering a lively, sometimes rambunctious, but always enjoyable experience.

The consensus is clear: this is a must-visit spot for anyone looking for fun, food, and fantastic music.

In a delightful development for families and sweet-toothed residents of Milwaukee, the Milwaukee Public Market has announced the upcoming opening of Freese’s Candy Shoppe, a beloved local confectioner known for its fairy food toffee and scrumptious turtles.

The West Allis-based candy shop is expanding its presence to the Historic Third Ward, offering its handmade chocolates, roasted nuts, and other signature treats.

The announcement comes on the heels of Kehr’s Candies closing their location at the market at the end of the month.

Slated to occupy a cozy 500-square-foot space, Freese’s Candy Shoppe is bringing a second location and nearly a century of candy-making tradition to the heart of Milwaukee.

The shop began in 1928, with Wendy and Mike Matel taking the helm in 1995. They’ve maintained the original recipes and techniques that have made Freese’s a staple.

The opening is targeted for March, in time for Easter, and the market and the Matels are gearing up to announce more details about the grand opening.

For more information about the Milwaukee Public Market and the sweet arrival of Freese’s Candy Shoppe, visit MilwaukeePublicMarket.org or contact them directly.

Menomonee Falls has just become a tad sweeter and more colorful with the opening of Bubble Tea Bar, a new permanent location dedicated to bringing over 30 flavors of the beloved tea-based beverage to both young and old.

Situated at N88 W16739 Main St., the heart of downtown, kids and parents alike can explore a world of flavors, textures, and fun.

Lana Voden, the visionary behind Bubble Tea Bar, transitioned from a food truck serving up joy at special events to establishing a permanent foothold in Menomonee Falls.

Bubble Tea Bar opened its doors on February 9th, inviting families to dive into the unique experience that is bubble tea, often described by Voden as “the equivalent to coffee or espresso-based iced drinks except for tea lovers.”

Bubble tea, for those new to the craze, combines the refreshing qualities of tea with the playful addition of tapioca pearls or other toppings, making each sip a delightful surprise.

Voden takes pride in introducing a diverse menu, including fruit teas made with green or black tea bases and fruit syrup, and milk teas crafted from black tea, flavored powders, and milk.

What sets Bubble Tea Bar apart are the “fun toppings” – from red beans to cheese foam and sweet foam, each addition promises a dynamic taste adventure that kids especially love.

The flavor roster at Bubble Tea Bar is impressive, boasting more than 30 combinations.

Recent additions like vanilla chai, spiced chai, chocolate milk tea, and coffee-flavored varieties mean there’s always something new to try.

And with plans to introduce blended milk teas, smoothies, and slushies made from real fruit in the spring, the menu is ever-evolving.

Although Bubble Tea Bar’s cozy dimensions don’t allow for indoor or outdoor seating, it’s well poised for families on the go.

Customers can order online for pickup or delivery, making it a convenient option for busy parents or those looking to add a special treat to family outings.

The shop’s hours, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, cater to after-school and weekend family adventures.

Besides its permanent location, Bubble Tea Bar will continue to engage with the community through its food truck at events and a vending machine at Mequon Public Market.

To stay updated on new flavors, events, and more, follow Bubble Tea Bar on Facebook at www.facebook.com/bubbleteabar.co.
