August 4: Bird Hike, 9:30-10:30 AM 

Join our Naturalist on a leisurely morning hike to learn the basics of birding and see some the 70+ species that live in or migrate through Lakeshore State Park! Every bird hike is unique as migration causes our visitors to change throughout the year. We recommend bringing your binoculars, but we do have a small number of extra binoculars available for those who need them. Please inquire by August 2nd to reserve your pair by emailing elaine.zautke@wisconsin.gov. All ages and abilities welcome, meet at the park’s north entrance, near Discovery World. 

August 8: Lighthouse Hike, 6:00-7:00 PM

Celebrate National Lighthouse Day by strolling through Lakeshore State Park, starting at the Milwaukee Pierhead Lighthouse. Learn the history of Milwaukee’s lighthouse and of shipping on Lake Michigan. All ages and abilities welcome. Hike will begin at the Milwaukee Pierhead Lighthouse, it is the red one at the south end of the park

August 11: Prairie Hike, 3:30-4:30 PM

There is always something new to see in our prairies as new plants bloom and grow throughout the season! Join our Naturalist for a colorful summer hike and learn about our beautiful plants along the way! Meet at the north entrance, near Discovery World. All ages and abilities welcome!

August 21: Dragonfly Hike, 5:00-6:00 PM

Did you know that dragonflies are the most successful hunters in the animal kingdom? They catch 95% of the prey they hunt, more than any other predator observed! Come observe and learn more about these tiny, fierce hunters with a walk around the park. All ages and abilities welcome! Meet at the north entrance, near Discovery World.

August 29: Edible Plants of Lakeshore, 6:00-7:00 PM

Lakeshore State Park’s prairie plants are not only pretty, but many are edible as well! Join our Naturalist for a stroll and check out some of these cool native species. Our hike will begin at the park’s north entrance, near Discovery World. All ages and abilities welcome!
